Highly Rated 2015 Ferraton Père et Fils “Les Eygats” Cornas (JS100) (RP95-97) (D98) $66.99* This Wine Will Go Fast!

Ferraton Pere & Fils is a domaine attached to its roots and origins. Of men who are passionate, loyal to their heritage with which they have forged the identity of Ferraton Pere & Fils. The winery is composed of a team who observe and experiment, always with the greatest respect. Of those who work the land, the vines, the wine.

n Pere & Fils brings together a fraternity of winemakers in a quest for excellence of precious and generous wines. The resulting wines are considered as being unique witnesses to the land and climate from which they originate.

Distinguished as a fine Syrah producing zone since the 18th century, Cornas, like Cote Rotie, is made up of vineyards covering steep and hard-to-work, granite terraces. As a result the region’s wines fell out of favor during the mid 20th century when the global market was more focused on bulk wines and vineyards that yielded high quantities. It wasn’t until the 1980s when a group of energetic young winemakers reestablished the integrity of these precipitous terraces and also began making an ultra-modern style of Syrah. The new style didn’t need a decade before it was drinkable and could reach the consumer faster than the region’s traditional wines. Given the new quality coming out of the zone, its popularity once again soared and today a good Cornas can easily challenge many of those from Hermitage.

2015 Ferraton Père et Fils
“Les Eygats” Cornas
Decanter 98 Points: Dense, herbal and oaky aromatics unfold elegantly onto a full-bodied, powerful and lush palate. It is full of plush fruit and muscular, thunderous power in an old-school style. There is a lot to enjoy here all the way to a long finish lengthened by fine tannins and piercing acidity.
Robert Parker 95-97 Points: The 2015 Cornas Lieu Dit Les Eygats comes from a terrific vineyard located in the northern portion of the appellation and will see 14 months in 15% new barrels. It has a liqueur of rocks-like minerality as well as layers of blueberries, currants, peppery herbs, graphite and licorice. Full-bodied, incredibly concentrated and stacked on the palate, with a finish that won’t quit! Easily one of my favorite wines from Ferraton.
James Suckling 100 Points: The 2015 Cornas Lieu Dit Les Eygats gives up more complex notes of campfire and liquid rock, as well as loads of black raspberry, toasted spice and leather. Gorgeously pure, layered and sexy, with perfect balance, it’s a blockbuster Cornas that shows how utterly sensational this vintage is.
